MEMPHIS MISCELLANY

While the primary purpose of our visit to Memphis was to visit old friends Carl and Pan Awsumb whom we had not seen for for 41 years, the city proved to be an absolute hatfull of wonderfull experiences - from the amazing and engaging Mississippi River to Beale Street and its incredible Blues Pubs - from the Memphis Cathedral (Designed by Carl's Grandfather), to the beautiful "Southern" style houses that line the suburban streets - from Sun Studios with its remarkable history of recording Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash & Carl Perkins (The Million Dollar Quartet), and so many others ........ to STAX, the Museum of American Soul Music where such artists as Otis Redding and Isaac Hayes were recorded - and most importantly of all, visits to The magnificent Peabody Hotel and Graceland, Elvis' magnificent home and the primary tourist attraction in town, along with the Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King was assassinated and which is now the American Civil Rights Museum
