SPIRIT OF PLACE
Since I can remember I have taken photographs of just about everything and anything that I have found interesting or beautiful, always hoping that the image will be imbibed with a "Spirit of Place" - that essential element that will give it meaning. In Lawrence Durrell's immortal observation: "......all landscapes ask the same question in the same whisper, 'I am watching you, are you watching yourself in me?' Most travelers hurry too much - the important thing is to travel with the eyes of the spirit wide open and not too much factual information."
This I have found to be true of almost all the so-called photographic genres, and is something I have both consciously and sub-consciously tried to capture with every photograph I take.
